How Firebreak Spray Systems Work
All Firebreak systems use Phos-Chek long term fire retardant, the powerful product used by the U.S. Forest Service, to safeguard your home. This non-toxic retardant is easily applied using fully automated or manual self-contained spray systems. Once applied, Phos-Chek will protect your home and property long before a wildfire begins.
What is Phos-Chek?
Phos-Chek
has been synonymous with world-class fire fighting chemicals for over
forty years. Considered the safest, most effective and environmentally
friendly fire retardant available, this colorless solution is safe
around your family, plants and animals. It is fully qualified by the
USDA Forest Service. As the only company with exclusive rights to this

How does Phos-Chek work?
Phos-Chek long-term fire retardand is a fertilizer based liquid applied in a spray to brush, trees, grasses, wood or other cellulose materials. When heated by fire, Phos-Chek reacts with cellulose material creating water vapor and surface char, effectively stopping the advance of flame. For more information, visit the Phos-Chek website.
How are we different than gels and foams?
There are a few different types of products avaiable in the market today to defend against wildfires. Here's how each are different...
WATER - Water must be used to SUPPRESS the fire directly. Extremely dangerous.
FOAM - Foam is a fire suppressant, extending the life of water (foam is just a carrier for water). These are very dangerous because the foam must be sprayed on minutes before the fire reaches the home. This could trap the homeowner in a wildfire and also allows the fire to reach the home making it more likely to burn.
GEL - Gel is also a fire suppressant, extending the life of water (gel is just a carrier for water). Gels will last a bit longer than foams but only a few hours. These are dangerous as well and puts the homwowner in a dangerous position. They also allow the fire to reach the home making it more likely to burn.
LONG TERM RETARDANT - Retardant is PREVENTATIVE, not a dangerous suppressant. You spray Phos-Chek at the beginning of the wildfire season and it will remain effective until it rains or is washed off. Retardant does not use water to fight the fire. It is a fertilizer based liquid applied in a spray to brush, trees, grasses, wood or other cellulose materials. When heated by fire, Phos-Chek reacts with cellulose material creating water vapor and surface char, effectively stopping the advance of flame.
“The Santa Barbara fire is not what firefighters would characterize as a good omen.”
