Firebreak Spray Systems: Length of California Wildfire Season Expands, 2008 Still Threatens
Wildfire season now year-round
HOOD RIVER, ORE. — Firebreak Spray Systems™, a leader in wildfire risk management, reports that wildfire season is now considered by firefighting professionals and state fire risk officials to be a year-round risk. Though, historically, the number of California wildfires tend to peak in October of each year, 2006, 2007 and 2008 demonstrate that significant wildfires are now a threat even in months that traditionally showed little wildfire activity.
Firebreak Spray Systems employs a proactive approach to mitigating wildfire losses — using consultation, retardant pretreatment, notification and incident response — to protect residential and commercial property before wildfire strikes.
“Due to changes in climate, including global warming, California wildfires seem to be increasing in their size and frequency and are considered to be a threat well beyond the high-risk summer months,” says Chief Sam Digiovanna, fire official for Firebreak Spray Systems.
“It is true that we are now very much in the highest-risk part of the wildfire season,” says Andrew Aamodt, Managing Principal of Firebreak Spray Systems. “However, February 2006 and the springs of 2007 and 2008 taught us that the risk of a wildfire is very much a reality year-round in California.”
Firebreak Spray Systems recently released Firebreak On-Demand™ service providing the opportunity to mitigate or prevent wildfire damage without the commitment of a long-term contract. Insurance professionals and commercial risk managers can schedule Firebreak On-Demand for one or more days, with as little as 24 hours notice. These clients previously accessed the same services through season-long arrangements only.
As with all existing services and products, Firebreak On-Demand utilizes Phos-Chek® long-term fire retardant, the same non-toxic and environmentally safe product used by the National Forest Service. The clear liquid is sprayed days, weeks or months ahead of time on property and structures to protect them from wildfire threat as long as it remains in place.
Firebreak Spray Systems offers a range of products and services specifically designed to protect residential and commercial property from damage or loss due to wildfire. These include a new portable unit and installed systems for property owners, as well as service plans for insurers.
