As fire broke out last night in Montecito and most people were evacuating, others were heading into the hills.
Professional firefighters who work with a company called 'Firebreak' sprayed about thirty homes with a chemical to protect them from the fire.
Many of those homes were owned by people with insurance policies from the company American International Insurance Corp., or AIG who's policies included special fire protection.
It's compliments of a company called Firebreak. .and their record is pretty good.
In the recent Sesnon Fire, 54 homes were sprayed and 54 homes were saved.
The Firebreak team is led by Chief Sam DiGiovanna, a 30-year firefighting veteran and former fire chief for the Monrovia Fire Department
He says, "if there's a fire that's burning and this house maybe in the path of the fire, we will come and spray and coat the entire house and everything around it with Phos-Chek."
At about $10,000 a year, Firebreak is mostly protecting the mansions of the moneyed.
But anyone can call Firebreak to ask for fire protection.
